Hydro Multipurpose Amphibious Rover
Title: HYDROMAR – Hydro Multipurpose Amphibious Rover
Expected start date: 12/06/2024
Expected end date: 11/06/2025
Proposing Party:
- SeTel Srl
Collaborative research organizations for contractual research activities:
- Università degli Studi di Roma Tre
Specialist consultancy services:
- Start 4.0
Objective:
The primary objective of the project is the creation of an amphibious system, called HydroMAR, with high rapid deployment capacity for early warning and risk analysis operations, drinking water monitoring and infrastructure inspections. water and artificial reservoirs.
Primary objectives are activities related to the observation and measurement of water quality, as an enabling element of a series of analyzes and processes on critical infrastructures to mitigate the risk relating to human safety, species safety, the management of any activities reclamation, etc.
Activity:
The project idea combines the enabling technology of the MAR amphibious rover (Multipurpose Amphibious Rover), with monitoring, inspection and sampling activities of the critical infrastructures of water networks and artificial drinking water basins. The monitoring activities will be aimed at avoiding risks of propagation of pollutants and evaluating possible impacts of climate change.
The sampling and monitoring system will consist of the amphibious Rover associated with an underwater drone which, equipped with appropriate sensors, will carry out in-depth inspections, will collect water samples and will require two communication systems, one between the Rover and the Ground Station and one between the rover and the underwater drone.
The first communication system will presumably have to be defended from cyber attacks that could damage it or direct it towards objectives other than those planned or maliciously alter the data collected.
The second will presumably be implemented via optical cable both for reasons of cost effectiveness and its intrinsic resistance to cyberattacks.
The rover, which has internal calculation and therefore data fusion capabilities, as well as partial real-time data interpretation, will be able to carry out an initial processing of the data acquired by the underwater sensors, to associate the localization of the collected sample, to carry out an initial analysis of the presence of pollutants and to activate a predictive system for the risk of their propagation.
The rover will communicate with the enabled data collection center, over the air, through a secure communication channel, thus protecting the data and promoting cybersecurity and resilience policies. The same secure channel will also ensure the command and control function from malicious hacking.
The University of Roma Tre (Department of Science) will be involved in the research activities, through Contractual Research agreements, for the integration activities of the underwater drone, including sensors and actuators, with the rover on the surface.
Start 4.0 will also be involved with the specialist consultancy service for the activity of: Over-the-air communication (data protection solutions and cybersecurity framework & advisory and digital transformation advisory) a fundamental activity to achieve the objective of the project which will guarantee security of the data telecommunications system and remote control.
Funds:
The facilitation provided by this NOTICE FOR THE PROVISION OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN THE MATTER OF ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES 4.0 FOR THE SECURITY OF CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURES (ANNOUNCEMENT – 2023 – START4.0) is granted pursuant to the PNRR, MISSION 4 COMPONENT 2 “From research to business” INVESTMENT 2.3 “Strengthening and thematic and territorial extension of technology transfer centers by industry segments”, financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

The primary objective of ECOMAR (POR FESR Project Lazio Region) is the realization of an autonomous amphibious vehicle, named Rover, with a high rapid deployment capacity for early warning operations aimed at chemical- physical analysis of marine waters.
The early warning activity will allow the authorities to be quickly alerted in the event of water pollution. The vehicle will be equipped with sensors capable of detecting various chemical-physical characteristics in real-time, comparing the data with each other (data fusion) and generating an alert where a possible anomalous condition is revealed.
ACTIVITY:
The project involves SeTeL – Servizi Tecnici Logistics s.r.l. in the redesign and creation of the new marine Rover by integrating the appropriate components and sensors; various departments of Roma TRE University which will dedicate themselves to research, design and small-scale prototyping of the components necessary to adapt the agricultural Rover to the marine environment and make it suitable for the early warning and fast deployment mission; ESSEODUE srl which will deal with the definition and design of the chemical-physical-biological analysis methodology for the purposes of early warning; FAAL BATTERIE SRL which will deal with the study, analysis and design of the optimal system for energy storage via batteries.
The project is co-financed with the funds of the Lazio FESR Regional Program 2021-2027 of the Public Notice “Riposizionamento Competitivo RSI” (RSI Competitive Repositioning) approved with Resolution no. G18823 of 12.28.2022.

Announcement for the granting of concessions to companies for the valorisation of designs and models
“Bando per la concessione di agevolazioni alle imprese per la valorizzazione dei disegni e modelli”
(Gazzetta Ufficiale – Serie Generale – n. 182 del 5 agosto 2022)
“Announcement for the granting of concessions to companies for the valorisation of designs and models”
The Disegno+2022 Call, promoted by the General Directorate for the Protection of Industrial Property – UIBM of the Ministry of Economic Development and managed by Unioncamere, intends to support the innovative and competitive capacity of SMEs through the valorisation of designs/models on the national and international markets.
Thanks to this initiative we received the contribution to be able to design the production of a modular mat for the MAR.
The assembled mats create a tread whose surface is characterized by reliefs which, on the one hand improve the “grip” and on the other identify the product with the writing MAR (Multipurpose Amphibious Rover) and the Def-Tech logo.
The MAR, in fact, is proposed in particular to be able to operate on complex terrain such as swampy terrain, on snowy areas, sandy soil and areas, or in general on mixed terrain (mud) of water and earth. When passing over these terrains, tire tracks remain evident even for long periods.
Based on this consideration, the logo and writing are sculpted both positively and negatively on the tread. In this way the vehicle, passing by, clearly imprints its name and logo on the ground.
PRECISION AGRICULTURE
IperAgris
IPERAGRIS is the acronym of Integrated Process of E-resources & Robotics for precision Agricultural Systems. The project, in fact, aims to transport “the fourth industrial revolution” in the agriculture sector developing a engineered, intelligent and inclusive agriculture model. This through the inclusion of management tools within the “Intelligent Agricultural Factory” paradigm, which have as key enabler, advanced robotics monitoring and application practices. In this way, it is possible to design an integrated, engineered and intelligent system in which the management of data to and from the plant/ production process ensures efficient management and quality of agricultural products.
In this context SeTeL provides the enabling elements composed of a systems of terrestrial and aerial robots coordinated by a swarm logic. The system is based on the rover WineGrover, born from the Agridrone Vision project.
The evolution of Winegrover provides a suitable robotic platform for both sensors, which provide the supply chain with all the data necessary to manage the process, and for actuators that receive the operating instructions to realize a true Precision Agriculture.
In the project, themes of swarming robots merge with advanced sensors, the AI techniques, interpretation of big-data, communication in 5G, tele-work and the tele-training to realize an Intelligent Agricultura Factory 4.0.
